The Situation

A disturbed, cool west to southwest flow with embedded fronts covers Aotearoa New Zealand for the next few days

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland to Manawatu, including Coromandel and the central high country

Occasional showers, turning to rain from Taranaki northwards for a time tonight, some heavy and possibly thundery through tomorrow afternoon, easing later. Gale southwesterlies about Auckland, Waikato and Coromandel from tomorrow afternoon.

Bay of Plenty

Partly cloudy. A period of rain overnight. Scattered showers developing tomorrow, clearing late.

Gisborne to Wairarapa, and Wellington

Fine today. Showers developing tomorrow.

Buller, Westland

Showers clearing this afternoon. Rain developing early tomorrow, easing later and clearing from Westland.

Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, and Otago except Clutha

Mostly fine. Scattered showers developing for a time tomorrow, clearing later.

Clutha and Southland

Showers becoming widespread overnight, easing tomorrow evening.

Fiordland

Showers turning to rain tonight, with snow lowering to 800 metres, easing later tomorrow.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods. A few showers today.

Thursday

North Island: Mainly fine, apart from a few showers in the east and north. South Island: Showers in the west and south. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Friday

North Island: Few showers developing in the west, mainly south of Waikato. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Rain the west, with some heavy falls developing later. Generally fine elsewhere.

Saturday

North Island: isolated showers in the west clearing, otherwise mainly fine. South Island: Rain with heavy falls in the west, easing about Fiordland later. Partly cloudy with a few showers developing elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

A few showers on Thursday and Friday, with west to southwest winds, strong at times. Fine of Saturday with strong northwesterlies developing.
